Damian Light: New Zealand recently signed a free trade agreement with Korea lately. What does that really mean?

Free trade agreements can sound scary and there is some risk, but overall they’re a good idea. It’s basically us and Korea agreeing some principles under which we will trade. It has the ability to open up new markets and create jobs and wealth in both countries.
I haven’t had a chance to read through all the details of this agreement yet, but the last agreement with China is working pretty well.
That doesn’t mean that every free trade deal is a winner for NZ and I am concerned about some of the rumours surrounding the TPPA. Governments always negotiate these in private (I don’t mind this) but we should never give away what makes us uniquely Kiwi just for a good business deal.
