Anne-Elise Smithson: Is social media a good tool for discussion or is it too unbalanced?

Social media is a good way to keep us connected to young people, people in more isolated or rural communities, and importantly, to global movements. Bearing in mind that Green politics is much more than a political party – it is a global movement – the latter is particularly important to me.  It has been wonderful to receive messages of support from other people overseas fighting for a sustainable planet, and great to hear the success stories of green parties worldwide.

I would describe social media as alternative media commentary. I’m not sure that I would call it ‘unbalanced’, but it is definitely ‘subjective’. It is also a good way to hear what ordinary citizens are saying.
